Research Statement

Rohit Aggarwal is an Associate Professor of Information Systems. He is interested in active learning, a sub-domain of machine learning, with particular focus on how to integrate human expertise and domain knowledge in machine learning algorithms. He is intrigued by the area of information retrieval, especially recommender systems in the area of human capital. Looking at job progression as tuples on a directed graph can ease annotation effort needed to resolve synonymy and polysemy challenges in job and candidate recommender systems. He finds this research domain quite fascinating. A good portion of his past research focuses on studying how social media affects businesses, especially new ventures. Lately, he has been studying how online recommendations on professional networks affect people’s propensity to get job interviews. He is also interested in investigating online reputation mechanism designs that shape both the generation and utilization of social media. He has published in premium business journals such as Management Science, Inforamtion Systems Research, and MIS Quarterly.
