Research Summary

Dr. Lina Svedin examines critical governing functions under adverse circumstances. She focuses on public sector ethics, accountability, organizational culture, and cooperation under adverse circumstances, in an effort to strengthen public policy, support collaboration, and grow trust in governing institutions. She takes an interdisciplinary, multi-method, and community-engaged approach to research and she has led several teams in grant-funded research.

Biography

Dr. Lina Svedin is a Professor of political science at the University of Utah and former Visitng Professor at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies at Air University. She is Swedish by origin and has worked both as a practitioner in government, and as a researcher and the Training Director at the Center for Crisis Managment Research and Training. Her research focuses on public policy, ethics, collaboration and governance challenges in crises. Recent publications include articles in the journals Journal of Participatory Research MethodsPediatrics, and Climate Risk Management. She is series co-editor of Interdisiciplinary Community-Engaged Research for Health, a book series with the University of Cincinnati Press. She is also a Robert Wood Johnson Foudnation Interdiciplinary Research Leader alumna. Recently Dr. Svedin published Community-Academic Partnerships for Early Childhood Health, and Creating Culture through Health Leadership.

Dr. Svedin teaches core courses on administrative theory, policy analysis, program evaluation, ethics for public administrators, governance and the economy, as well as crisis management and conflict resolution within the U of U’s Masters of Public Administration and Masters of Public Policy programs.
