Biography
Amos N. Guiora is Professor of Law at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, the University of Utah. He is a Distinguished Fellow at The Consortium for the Research and Study of Holocaust and the Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, and a Distinguished Fellow and Counselor at the International Center for Conflict Resolution, Katz School of Business, University of Pittsburgh.
He is the Inaugural Chair of the University of Utah Independent Review Committee, Chair of the Gymnastics Canada Task Force on Assault and on the Board of Advisors for S.E.S.A.M.E., the leading national voice for the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment of students by teachers and other school staff. Professor Guiora is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Lauren McClusky Foundation, an organization honoring the legacy of Lauren McClusky, a University of Utah student athlete killed by an intimate partner in 2018.
Professor Guiora has an A.B. in history from Kenyon College, a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and a PhD from Leiden University.
For the past 10 years Guiora has been researching-writing-lecturing on the question of bystanders (originally in the Holocaust) resulting in his book The Crime of Complicity: The Bystander in the Holocaust leading to examining the role of the enabler in sexual assaults on which he has published widely including his book, Armies of Enablers: Survivor Stories of Complicity and Betrayal in Sexual Assaults; several law review articles, and a co-authored book (in progress) with Jon Vaughn, one of the 1000 sexual assault plaintiffs against the U of Michigan.
Guiora’s law review article, “Sea of Destruction” about teachers as “mobile molesters” led to a major new project, the “Ecosystem of Pedophilia” which has resulted in several writing projects; podcasts; and the S.J. Quinney Bystander Initiative.
Guiora has testified before the Utah House of Representatives, the Victoria (Australia) Parliament, and in the Netherlands and has spoken widely on these issues including (zoom and in person) in Australia, Canada, Israel, The Netherlands, the UK and the US.
He has been interviewed by, amongst others, the New York Times, LA Times, SF Chronicle, Sports Illustrated and the Washington Post.
