Biography

Dr. Yongmei Ni is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Utah. She is also an assistant director and the quantitative methodological lead at the Utah Education Policy Center at the University of Utah. She received her Ph.D. in Education Policy and her Master’s degree in Economics from Michigan State University. Dr. Ni’s scholarship focuses on economics of education, school choice, educational leadership, and quantitative research methods. Her research on charter schools has examined the effects of charter school policies on equity and student achievement, as well as their competitive impact on the effectiveness of traditional public schools.  She has also studied underlying possible forces of these results in charter schools, including teachers, principals, and their working environments. Her current research on educational leadership explores the quality of leadership preparation programs and their impact on graduate learning and their leadership practices. She has published articles in journals such as Economics of Education Review, Teachers College Record, Educational Administration Quarterly, Educational Policy, and Journal of Educational Finance. She served as an associate editor and editorial board member for Educational Administration Quarterly. In 2012, she received a National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer postdoctoral Fellowship. In 2013, she received the William J. Davis Award for the most outstanding Educational Administration Quarterly article of the year. She is a 2015 recipient of the University of Utah, College of Education Research Award and 2016 University of Utah Funding Incentive Seed Grant.
