  • UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS, SCHOOL OF DANCE - 'The First International Ballet Summer Intensive Wraps up with Tremendous Success' With the successful completion of the first summer of IBSI, Director Jay Kim is looking forward to the future of the program. “The Incheon, campus, and ballet communities were generous in their excitement and praise of the IBSI program and Gala acclaiming it as comparable to a professional company. It is very rewarding that success came to fruition after this past year of preparation and hard work in creating this program,” said Kim. “The fabulous facility, wonderful leadership, faculty, and training, combined with talented American and Korean students, within a culturally enriching environment, resulted in a very unique and high caliber educational experience. IBSI student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, expressing that it was an unforgettably enriching experience in their lives and ballet careers. We hope to continue to expand the program to many other countries in the future.” . 08/30/2019. https://www.dance.utah.edu/about-us/news-announcem...
  • THEATRE JONES, NORTH TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS NEWS - by Emily Sese - ‘Reflections, Ballet Frontier’s final piece before intermission, was choreographed by guest artist Jay Kim. This work captures a more contemporary ballet style with the introduction of turned in feet, bent knees, and inverted arms. A total of 13 dancers in black shorts and white sheer tops fill the stage in both high and low levels as they jump into the headspace and lay in planks on the floor… halfway through the piece the dancers find themselves in a striking diagonal line that adds depth and dramatizes their curving arms.’ . 01/25/2018.
  • THEATRE JONES, NORTH TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS NEWS- by Cheryl Callow- September 16, 2016 'The younger dancers of the company got their chance on stage after intermission with Jay Kim’s Remembrance, a work that proved Kim needs to be here to stay. His beautiful mixture of classical ballet and modern allowed the budding professionals a unique chance to hone their technical skills while developing a sense of artistry through more contemporary movement. The Mozart choral music haf a potential to overpower the dancers, but strong shapes and a remarkable attention to precision and timing kept that from happening. They attacked the work with gusto and fierceness.'. 09/16/2016.
  • THE DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE, by Kaitlin Baxter - February 5, 2016 ‘The final performance on the program was choreographed by Jay Kim, another professor in the department. Dramatic music, fantastic lighting and wildly good dancing make this last number spectacular. • THEATER JONES, TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS NEWS, by Cheryl Callon - August 27, 2015 ‘Jay Kim’s Enraptured… ruby-toned background… set the stage for a fierce yet alluring piece. It’s a surprisingly tight work… nice pirouettes, notable displays of flexibility, and consistent performances qualities make this one of their better pieces... Kim’s enchanting blend of contemporary ballet and classical modern, with a pleasing sequence of gestural and arm maneuvers, create a valuable experience for the performers to explore a greater range of movement and expression, a vital tool in the competitive world of ballet… it’s an excellent dance to keep in the repertoire.’ . 08/27/2015.
