Honors & Awards

  • The 2016 Governor’s Medal For Science And Technology in the category of Higher Education. ----- It is not simply a scientific achievement award; it also recognizes the unique contributions of individuals working, over time, on matters of importance to the State. These additional factors were also considered: degree of national or local recognition as a science educator; involvement in innovative science education activities outside of the classroom; other awards received in recognition of teaching achievements; and personal research and science achievements. https://ustar.org/news-and-events/governors-medals-for-science-and-technology/ http://business.utah.gov/news/governors-medal-science-technology-winners-announced/. • 2nd Place AND Low Cost Award for the Simple Photoelectric Effect demonstration in the American Association of Physics Teachers' Apparatus Competition. ----- The Apparatus Competition was established to recognize, reward, and publicize worthwhile contributions to physics teaching through demonstration and experiment. With huge advances in technology, many physics apparatus are now commercially available. But even with these advances, physics research still requires the inventive spirit of designing and building experimental apparatus one's self. Whether developed to pique the interest of students, used in lecture and demonstration, or simply used to help teach physics in new or fascinating ways, teachers are continually engineering apparatus to aid physics instruction. http://www.aapt.org/programs/contests/apparatus_winners_2009.cfm . 08/2009
