Research Statement
Dr. Fisher has focused his research efforts on using molecular genetics to dissect the complex interaction between Y. pestis and the flea vector. Using global gene analysis strategies, he hopes to gain insight into how the agent of the Black Death is able to adapt to the very different environments of the mammalian host and the flea vector.
