Biography

Dr. Kent Stewart Udell is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Sustainability Research Center at the University of Utah. He is also Professor Emeritus, University of California, Berkeley.

Professor Udell is a Utah native, having attended Utah State University and then University of Utah. In 1980, he joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, where he taught for 26 years.  While at Berkeley, he was the Director of the Berkeley Environmental Restoration Center, Vice-Chair of Instruction of Mechanical Engineering, and held the title of Professor in both Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is currently teaching classes in Engineering Ethics and Sustainable Energy Engineering at the University of Utah. He received the EPA Outstanding Remediation Technology Award in 1999 and is on the EPA National Advisory Committee on Environmental Technology.

His current research interests include Seasonal Underground Thermal Energy Storage, Geothermal Power Production, and Sustainable Energy Systems.
