Research Statement

I try to keep a broad perspective in choosing research topics, which keeps my intellectual curiosity strong.  I have published recordings with such variety as Danish romantic sonatas (Naxos) to contemporary American music for violin (Innova 271).  I will continue this breath of interests to also make my teaching more interesting.

  • In 2019, the Chelsea Festival commissioned 10 female composers to premiere new works in honor of Clara Schumann's legacy. Chelsea Music Festival Records created an album to commemorate this project by including selections of live performances from our 2019 Festival, with pieces by composers Binna Kim, Augusta Read Thomas, Aigerim Seilova, Helen Grime, and Nicky Sohn! • Composer Steven Ricks' Assemblage Chamber features three chamber works that incorporate elements of the Baroque into Ricks' glitchy, collage oriented textures. An eclectic artist who is active in electronic music and free improvisation in addition to through-composed acoustic work, Ricks filters Baroque influences through his omnivorous style, responding at the end of the recording with an electronic reaction piece, a reckoning with incorporating older material from the vantage point of 2022. • Complete Music for Violin Solo and Violin and Piano by Carl Nielsen: The music of Carl Nielsen holds a very special place for Danes, defining the nation’s musical voice for over a century and reflecting the soul of Denmark. Nielsen was a violinist from childhood, his early Sonata in G major having ‘a scent of Mozartian youth’, while the newly published Romance in G major was dedicated to his first teacher. Mature works include the Second Violin Sonata, ‘a work unparalleled in the sonata literature’, and the Prelude, Theme and Variations inspired by Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin. This collection represents the first ever recording of Nielsen’s complete music for violin solo or with piano. Published, 09/11/2020.
