  • Salt Lake Climber's Association Policy Committee. Role: Committee Member. As Committee Member to the Salt Lake Climber's Association Policy Committee I provide direction to, and comments on, policy and planning that effects public land management and outdoor recreation advocacy in the State of Utah. Examples of projects include Bears Ears National Monument, Utah Roadless Rule, trail construction and maintenance, and Utah Department of Transportation planning. 10/15/2018 - present
  • School for International Expedition Training. Role: Board member. As Board Member for the School for International Training I participate in Board meetings and calls, advise the executive leadership on issues related to international guiding and education, assist in the developing grant funding, and on administration of a legal non-profit entity. 07/01/2015 - present
  • Research and Publications Committee, Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education. Role: Chair. As the Chair of the Research and Publications Committee I supervised the coordination of the AORE Research Symposium, developed research project to engage members, communicated vision, goals, and progress consistently using web-based platforms and telephone, on-boarded new members, created a structure for succession of the Chair position, and frequently communicated the purpose and vision to the new AORE Executive Director, President, and Board Members. 11/01/2010 - 11/01/2012
  • Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education. Role: Board member of the JOREL Advisory Board. As a Board Member of the Advisory Board to the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership I worked advised the editorial board on strategic planning, opportunities for growth, reviewing personnel, directing content, targeting potential markets and stakeholders, and developing the journal.   • Climbing Resource Advocacy Group for Vermont. Role: Board Member. As a Board Member I worked on advocacy-related projects that fostered access for climbing in Vermont, provided outreach to local communities at special events, worked on fundraising projects, and provided input and direction to the Executive Committee. 01/01/2011 - 06/01/2013
  • Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Research and Publications Committee. Role: Member.   • As an Internship Supervisor for Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, I am responsible for communicating with students, supervisors, and agencies to ensure a positive internship experience for PRT students.   • New England Association of Schools and Colleges Self-Study Work Group, Green Mountain College, Committee Member: As a member of the NEASC Self-Study Work Group I was responsible for drafting three portions of the NEASC Self Study: Integrity of the Award of Academic Credit, Assessment of Student Learning, and Institutional Effectiveness.   • As the Coordintor of the Delicate Balance Program I was responisble for working with program faculty to provide a consistent and valuable capstone experience of the Green Mountain College Environmental Liberal Arts Program.   • As a Search Committee Member for the hiring of the Assistant Specialist for the Registrar's Office, I worked with the Registrar to review and screen applicants and interview candidates. Committee Member, 10/01/2012 - 11/01/2012. University service.
  • As Chair of the Academic Standards Committee at Green Mountain College I was responsible for reviewing and approving changes to the Environmental Liberal Arts and discipline specific curriculum for the College. In addition, the curriculum committee was responsible for reviewing student petitions for changes to the academic program, enforcing probationary and expulsion standards for students, and approving new programs throughout the College.   • As the Search Committee Chair I was responsible for coordinating a committee of five members, including my Division Chair, for the review and screening of applicants for the Assistant Professor of Adventure Education Position.   • As a Committee Member of the Academic Standards Committee at Green Mountain College I reviewed student petitions for exceptions to policies that regarded curricular programming at Green Mountain College. I deliberated with colleagues, reached out to faculty, provided committee reports, reviewed expulsion/suspension/probation actions for students, and advised the Registrar and Provost.   • As Member of the Adventure Education and Youth Development/Camp Management Committee I was responsible for providing direction to the strategic plan, prioritizing goals, and developing programming for these disciplines to integrate themselves into the College-wide operations of Green Mountain College.   • As Faculty Representative to the Student Judicial Board at Green Mountain College I was responsible for meeting with the Board to review disciplinary actions on students; also responsible for addressing faculty concerns and reporting to the faculty on specific issues as needed. Community Partnership

  • Parkview Elementary School. Nate Bricker and I co-teach HONORS 2300. As a part of the class, the Honors students prepare and run a natural-science based field program with the fifth-grade students at Edison Elementary. As a group, we travel to the Faultline Park in Salt Lake City; continue to the Where the Glaciers Meet site in Big Cottonwood Canyon; and then to Silver Lake. At Silver Lake the students coordinate a nature walk around the lake, stopping for interpretive sessions about mountain building, beavers, ducks, erosion, fish, and trees. This curriculum is tied to the Utah State fifth grade curriculum and allows students from Parkview to interact with their curriculum on a personal level. It also allows the Honors college students to step into leadership roles and connect and mentor students from the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. 10/09/2015 - present
  • Wasatch Front Urban Ranger Program, Co-Director. The Wasatch Front Urban Ranger Program is a community collaboration between (a) Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, (b) the National Parks Service RTCA, (c) the Utah Bureau of Land Management, (d) The Jordan River Commission, (e) the Utah Department of Natural Resources. Each year 10-15 student volunteers patrol sections of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and the Jordan River Trail. Students gather data on trail usage, perform light trail maintenance, educate trail users on public land issues, and run special events for community organizations and schools. The program supports a graduate student coordinator who manages the day-to-day aspects of the program. Past and present sponsors include Cotopaxi, Gaia GPS, Mountain Khakis, Black Diamond Equipment, and Competitive Cyclist. 09/01/2015 - present
  • Industry Partnerships: As a part of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Urban Ranger Program and U-EXPLORE, I have cultivated strong relationships with Industry Partners. These include Backcountry.com, Competitive Cyclist, Mountain Khakis, Black Diamond Equipment, Misty Mountain Threadworks, Petzl, Sego Ski Company, Cotopaxi, among others. These companies have provided in-kind donations in excess of $25,000 to the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. The donations have supported the BST Urban Ranger Program and optimized the experience of U-EXPLORE students. 07/01/2015 - present

Outreach

  • As U-EXPLORE Social Media Manager I started and manage the Instagram and Facebook page for U-EXPLORE. As of January 10, 2018, the Instagram page has 26,000 followers and is one of the most prominent Instagram accounts in Utah. The Facebook page was cultivated slowly and carefully and features 2,500 followers, most of whom are a part of the University of Utah community. 10/03/2014 - present
