Teaching Philosophy

My primary goal as an educator is to engage students and encourage them to become active participants in their education and informed members of their communities. The geologic and environmental sciences are uniquely positioned to address important present-day societal issues, such as climate change, energy economics, and habitat loss. My goal in teaching is to instill the significance of the Earth and Biological Sciences so that when the student assumes a professional role in their community, they are informed, empowered, and able to critically assess information about these topics of global importance.

Courses I Teach

  • 7473/7475 - Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry and Ecology
    "Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry and Ecology" trains students in the fundamental environmental and biological theory underlying isotope fractionation processes across a broad spectrum of ecological and environmental applications. Its scope spans plants, animals, geochemistry, terrestrial ecosystems, marine and oceanic systems, paleoclimates, and the atmosphere.
