Research Summary

The research of Professor Mooney is based upon the critical professional practice of architecture. She is a principal of the firm Sparano + Mooney Architecture, a regional practice focused on the western United States with offices located in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City and over a dozen active projects. The broad goal of the practice lies in enhancing the built environment for the communities it serves, and designing architecture with the potential to transform the way people live and work.

Anne Mooney is a Professor of Architecture in the College of Architecture + Planning, where she teaches applied research design studios, and seminars in contemporary design theory and professional practice. Professor Mooney is an architect and design principal and the co-founder of Sparano + Mooney Architecture, an award-winning architectural practice with offices in Salt Lake City, UT and Los Angeles, CA.  Her work has been internationally recognized for its research-based conceptual approach to architecture and has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications in North and South America, Europe and Asia.  Current projects include community, cultural and recreation projects, sacred spaces and private residences located throughout the western United States. A LEED accredited professional, Professor Mooney is experienced in sustainable building systems and technologies and consults with public and private entities on sustainable architectural design.
