BIO

Mollie R. Cummins, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, is a Professor of Nursing and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah and Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Chair. She holds a PhD in nursing science and information science from Indiana University. In 2007, she studied complexity science methods, including agent-based modeling and network analysis, at the Santa Fe Institute. A faculty member at the University of Utah since 2004, her early career focused on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning methods in health care. Over time, her research has grown to encompass diverse methods and topics in nursing and biomedical informatics research. Currently, she focuses on research informatics, exposure health informatics, applied data science, and telemedicine. She leads an NIEHS-funded R24 focused on augmenting the University of Utah's Exposure Health Informatics Ecosystem with sensor metadata and serves as site PI for PCORnet RECOVER EHR, a multi-site NHLBI-funded study focused on digital phenotyping of PASC (post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2). She has led multiple national studies of telemedicine trends and outcomes, based upon large-scale analysis of industry data and electronic health record (EHR) data. Her honors include fellowship in the American College of Medical Informatics and the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Cummins previously chaired the Board of Scientific Counselors of the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, the intramural research division of the National Library of Medicine, and the American Academy of Nursing Informatics & Technology Expert Panel. She serves on the American Academy of Nursing's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force and the National Council for Nursing Research Workgroup on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Health.
