Research Summary

My research and creative work is is expressed and realized in various ways: 1.Conducting and Musical Direction of 25-30 concerts per year, at the U of U, national and internationally. 2. Performances on viola and viola d’amore 3. Published writing and blog entries about the nature of creativity, performance and interpretation. These activities continue to perpetuate new collaborations and opportunities that have taken, and will take my work to other concert halls, universities, and countries.

Biography

Robert Baldwin, is a professor of music and serves as Director of Orchestras at the University of Utah.  He is also in his ninth season as Music Director for the Salt Lake Symphony, and his 15th season as the conductor of UK Opera Theatre’s It’s a Grand Night for Singing. He has conducted concerts across the United States and Europe. including the Eutin Music Festival in Germany, AMKO Sinfonia at the Kuopio Academy of Music in Finland, and the Hermitage Camerata Symphony in Saint Petersburg, Russia.  Recent tours with the University of Utah Chamber Orchestra include London, England and Vienna, Graz and Salzburg, Austria. In demand as a conductor and clinician across the U.S., he also has conducted performances with the Lafayette Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Flagstaff Festival of the Arts, Abilene Tri-Collegiate Opera, and numerous festivals and All-State Orchestras.  His performances and ensembles have received national attention and been featured on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and “Weekend Edition. He makes his home in Salt Lake City, where, in his spare time, he enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with his family and dogs.
