Research Summary

My research focuses on questions of hierarchy and power that are intertwined with ideas about embodiment, daily routines, slavery, gender, and popular culture in the Roman world. I examine the daily practices associated with the body’s most basic somatic demands and the attitudes that some Latin authors express towards bodies that eat, digest, and excrete.
