Biography

John Gordon is the Program Manager for the SCI-HUM Research Initiative in the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI), which builds collaborative research projects between SCI and the College of Humanities. John is an Interdisciplinary Adjunct Faculty member of the Kahlert School of Computing in the College of Engineering, the Department of Writing & Rhetoric in the College of Humanities, and the Department of Information Systems in the David Eccles School of Business. John is also a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Writing & Rhetoric with research interests in Code Studies, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Software Engineering, Programming Languages and the History of Computing.

Background:

Military Service: 12 Years: United States Air Force (USAF) active duty, honorably discharged at the rank of E6 Technical Sergeant. Gulf War veteran. Served in the positions of Law Enforcement Officer, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Traffic Accident Investigator, Engineering Assistant, NCO Leadership School Instructor, and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) Engineering Division.

Information Systems Industry Experience: 38 Years: Held key positions with local, national, and international organizations in the commercial, non-profit, and government sectors as a computer professional, including the United States Air Force, United Way, US District Court District of Utah, Franklin Capital Corporation, 1-800 Contacts, Transportation Insight, Siskin Enterprises, University of Utah, Global Drug Testing Laboratories, Complete Recovery Corporation, Extraspace Management, and Eide Bailly. Primary roles within these organizations included Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Senior Database Administrator (DBA), Senior Software Engineer, Senior Systems Administrator, Senior Data Engineer, Data Analytics Consultant, Business Intelligence Developer, and Software Development Manager.
