Research Statement

My research focuses on development of advanced technologies for generation of electric power, fuels and chemicals from fossil and renewable resources. Of special interest are technologies that incorporate capture of generated CO2 for carbon-neutral processing of fossil fuels or carbon-negative processing of biomass and waste. In particular, I work with gasification, chemical looping combustion and high-pressure oxy-fuel combustion. My laboratories include equipment for fundamental characterization of fuels, products and reactions, bench scale reactor systems for process development, and pilot-scale systems that replicate the environment of full-scale systems.

Development of advanced energy conversion processes such as gasification and chemical looping cannot be done in isolation. The most effective way to advance these technologies is to partner with other experts around the world.  I enjoy collaboration and encourage others to contact us if they have expertise to share and want to work together.
