Jennifer Clifton, DNP, FNP-BC CNE. Dr. Clifton is a Family Nurse Practitioner who has been working as a clinical instructor for the University of Utah since 2005. This role incorporates student instruction of on-line graduate level classes, patient care as lead clinician for the Juvenile Justice Service (JJS) team and clinical management as Clinical Director of the CON/JJS team. The CON/ JJS contract oversees ten clinics in the Salt Lake City area. Dr. Clifton has 28 years nursing experience. She earned her BSN at Indiana University in 1989. As a Registered Nurse, she worked in a variety of clinical settings including medical/surgical nursing, intensive and cardiac care units and home care. Dr. Clifton earned her MSN/FNP at Brigham Young University in 1998. She completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Utah graduating in May of 2010. In November, 2010, Dr. Clifton became a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), the first at the University Of Utah College Of Nursing. Prior to working for the University, Dr. Clifton worked as a nurse practitioner at the Utah State Hospital where she was actively involved in expanding medical care to include health promotion and disease prevention. She ws awarded th 2015 Emrging Nuse Leader Award by the Organization of Nurse Leaders. She completed a yearlong fellowship as a Duke-Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leader Fellow in May 2016.
In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Clifton spearheaded efforts to otain funding for screning of Chlaydia ad Gonorrhea i the Juvenile Justice (JJS) setting. These effors twice resulted in an $80,000 allocation to JJS for this purpose. Currently, Dr. Clifton is working with legislators to renew this funding.
