Research Statement

Numerical weather prediction, synoptic, mesoscale and boundary-layer meteorology with focus on lake-atmosphere interactions. Research interests include cold-pool modeling, thermally-driven flows (including sea and lake breezes), satellite meteorology, and boundary-layer observational platforms.  Current research:

Basin meteorology and air quality: Numerical modeling of  wintertime cold pools, observing ozone spatial patterns in Great Salt Lake Basin. Also working on an observational platform to measure ozone and particulate sensors on a light rail train and also have installed air quaility sensors on a news helicopter.

Satellite meteorology: Working with NASA to improve lake retrievals of SST from satellite.

Field campaign experience: Persistent Cold Air Pool Study (PCAPS) 2011, the Uintah Basin Ozone Study 1 and 2 (UBWOS) 2013-2014,  Second Meteor Crater Experiment (METCRAX2), 2013; Summer Ozone Study (SO3S), 2015; Utah Wintertime Cold Air Pool Fine Particulate Study (UWFPS) 2017.
