Biography

My research interests fall into four key areas: 1) Numerical weather prediction and modeling, with an emphasis on large-eddy simulations, 2) meteorological and air quality observations in complex mountainous terrain, 3) thermally-driven flows, particularly lake and sea breezes, and 4) remote sensing of the temperature of lakes. Recent and ongoing research projects include: Improving meteorological simulations of wintertime cold-air pools for Utah DIvision of Air Quality, understanding exchange processes during cold-air pools,  understanding spatial and temporal variations in air pollution using novel observational techniques, including a light rail trains and a news helicopter, and improving retrievals of lake surface temperature from polar orbiting satellites for input into regional and climate models.
