Biography

Brian Saam was born and raised in southeast Michigan to parents who were both K-12 teachers. His interest in science was especially sparked by his grandfather, who was a tool-and-die maker and bought Brian his first telescope. He graduated from Detroit Jesuit HS in 1984 and from the University of Michigan, with majors in physics and German, in 1989. He studied abroad in Freiburg, Germany in 1987. He did graduate work at Princeton University from 1989-1995. After a post-doc at Washington University in St. Louis 1996-1999, he moved to Salt Lake City in 1999 to join the faculty in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Utah. He enjoys golf, skiing, keeping bees, and loves baseball and its history.
