Biography

Tanya Vickers is a graduate of the University of California, Riverside. She has been teaching biology, human physiology and other entry level college science courses for nearly 20 years. She is the architect of a highly successful local public high school research program and author of the Teen Science Fair Sourcebook (Enslow Publishers, Inc., 2009).  During her tenure as a college instructor and high school research coach, she has taught and participated in teacher professional development courses and attended national conferences for science educators. The range of teaching experiences and training has allowed her to develop a dynamic curriculum for each of her classes. The classroom experience includes problem based learning and the use of an automated response system (clickers), creating an environment that promotes active learning and critical thinking.

My teaching philosophy is to create a classroom that is interactive and that explores fundamental scientific principles in the context of modern biology. I enjoy using a narrative style to relate facts from actual events and scientific studies in a way that helps students understand the relevance of biology to current world issues.  I encourage students to actively explore biology through problem solving and group discussions both inside and outside the classroom.”
