       I was responsible for all technical functions, including exploration, ore reserve analysis, mining, and processing. I             supervised the design of a 2–million ton-per-year magnetite mine and mill.

Baker-Hughes Process Equipment Co., Salt Lake City, Utah, Director of Research and Testing, 1995–1999

I directed the development of new technology for a $250 million company, supervising 15 engineers, one chemist, and four technicians.  Development was in the areas of new instrumentation, advanced control systems applications, and new process equipment. Annual budget approximately $3 million.

I investigated new business opportunities, in the areas of sonochemistry, accelerated leaching, interface of mine and mill control systems, and mine machine automation.

Magpie Minerals, Inc., Gooding, Idaho, Managing Partner, 1995–present

I participate in prospecting and exploration of gold and copper deposits in south–central Idaho. Activities include GPS surveys, determining status of existing and past mining claims, and conducting research into mining history.  I prepare prospectus documents for private and corporate investors.

I provided consulting services to the mining industry, particularly in the areas of placer mine exploration and evaluation, gravity processing of placer and other ores, economic evaluation of mineral deposits and mining methods, instrumentation, and mine automation.

I reviewed business agreements, evaluated prospective joint venture partners, and prepared business plans for the development of the company’s mining claims.

I initiated research into the automation of underground mining equipment, supervising another engineer and two technicians, with an annual budget of $400,000–$600,000. Rossi Vucinovich PC, Seattle, Washington – I completed a dynamic physical and mechanical analysis of an incident in which a freight train collided with a large boulder on the tracks

CML Metals Inc., Cedar City, Utah – I completed an analysis of the startup of CML’s iron ore concentrator, pursuant to insurance litigation.

Cook Slurry Company, Salt Lake City, Utah – I prepared technical reports for two cases, and was deposed in regards to both.

Christensen & Jensen, P.C., Salt Lake City. Utah – I prepared expert analysis of two mining accidents, and was deposed regarding both.

San Miguel Valley Corporation. Telluride, Colorado – At the request of Felt, Monson, and Culichia, a Colorado law firm, I reviewed approximately 4,000 pages of operating records from the Idarado Mine and mill in Telluride, Colorado, to estimate the consumptive use of water in the mine and mill during its period of operation.  I was deposed by the opposing counsel in this case.

Sandy City Corporation, Sandy, Utah – At the request of Snow, Christiansen, and Martineau, a law firm representing Sandy City, I visited the Ontario No. 2 Drain Tunnel, to make an estimate of the annual costs of maintaining the tunnel. I was not deposed in this case.

Era Polymers Pty. Ltd., Sydney, Australia – At the request of Clayton Utz, an Australian law firm representing New Era, I reviewed data and technical reports regarding the failure of polymer lining in flotation tanks at two Australian mills.  My report was entered as evidence in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.  I was not deposed in the case; rather, I participated in a 3-day “convocation of experts” that was convened by the court.

Consulting Clients

  1. Salt Lake County Attorney, Salt Lake City, Utah – I conducted an analysis of documents describing a purported gold mining company in Nevada, in relation to a case against the company.
  2. EVRAZ North America, Chicago, Illinois – I provided consultation on issues and technology related to mining.
  3. FLSmidth Minerals, Salt Lake City, Utah – I provided advice on the design and content of training materials for safety and operation in mineral processing plants and test laboratories.
  4. Rio Tinto Kennecott, Copperton, Utah – I led a project group that investigated performance of the flotation section of Kennecott's Copperton Concentrator, and made recommendations for improvements in management and operating practices.
  5. Western Utah Copper Corp., Milford, Utah – I provided advice on mine design and operation, including blasting, loading, and haulage; on mill design; and on processing of byproducts.  I also conduct financial analyses of various mining and processing options, and assist in preparation of documents for presentation to investors and partners.
  6. CODELCO El Teniente, Rancagua, Chile – I performed a preliminary analysis of the solubility of molybdenum in tailings effluent from El Teniente operations, and prepared a proposal for a detailed study of the problem.
  7. Progression, Inc., Haverhill, Massachusetts – I reviewed patents and technical documents related to laser­ induced breakdown spectroscopy.
  8. Palladon Ventures, Ltd., Langley, British Columbia – I prepared scoping studies, did preliminary economic analyses, and supervised mine and mill design and permitting for the Mountain Lion Iron Ore Deposit, near Cedar City, Utah.
  9. San Juan Underground Mine, Waterflow, New Mexico – I provided technical assistance on a variety of issues, including gob gas control, instrumentation for measurement of gas flow and composition, water sampling and analysis, and flue dust utilization.
  10. FFE Minerals USA, Inc., Bethlehem, Pennsylvania – I analyzed data from flotation tests, perfo1m hydrodynamic analysis of flotation machine designs, and reviewed flowsheet designs for flotation plants.
  11. G. Cooper Associates, Houston, Texas – I evaluated a placer gold prospect near Green River, Utah.
  12. Millennium Science and Engineering, Salt Lake City, Utah – Millennium was the coordinator for a visit and seminar for 18 engineers from the Brazil, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce. As consultant, I arranged mine and mill visits in Utah and Nevada, located commercial exhibitors, and delivered the keynote address, “Advanced Control Systems for Mines and Mills—An Opportunity for Increased Profits.”
  13. Park City Municipal Corporation, Park City, Utah – In cooperation with Seegmiller International, I reviewed ground and roof support conditions in the Judge–Anchor Tunnel, to ensure that the water supply for the 2002 Winter Olympics would be unaffected by roof falls.
  14. Burrows Claim Group, Seattle, Washington – The group owned 20 patented mining claims in the Hailey Gold Belt in Idaho. I researched the history of mining on the property, sampled veins, outcrops and dumps, and provided reco1ntnendations for development of the claims.  The claims were sold.
  15. Baker Process, Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah – I completed a technical translation from Spanish of a report describing the testing of mechanical flotation machines at the Chuquicamata Concentrator in northern Chile. I also represented Baker Process at the 2001 annual meeting of the AMIRA P9 project in Brisbane Australia.
  16. Advanced Power Technologies. Inc., Washington. D.C. – I consulted on the application the company's products in the mining and mineral industries.
  17. Mineral Ventures, LLC, Sparks, Nevada – I visited and evaluated mineral deposits in Arizona for potential mining development; I also reviewed and analyzed a new process for treating dry placer deposits.
  18. Lion Trail Minerals, Inc., Reading, California – I reviewed mining and milling operations at a small, underground gold mine in northern California.
  19. Mills Resources. Inc., Largo, Florida – I visited and evaluated placer deposits in Alaska, Montana, Arizona, and Nevada for potential mining development.
  20. Detton Construction Co., Dillon, Montana – I evaluated the design and operation of a placer gold processing plant near Anaconda, Montana.
  21. Hunt Mining Co. Salt Lake City, Utah – I visited and evaluated mineral deposits in Montana for potential mining development
  22. Pyramid Resources, Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah – I completed designs for a highwall mining system in an Australian coal mine, and for the hydraulic control system on a crushing machine.
  23. Ryan Lode Mines, Inc., Fairbanks, Alaska – I provided advice on the mine/mill water balance and secondary gold recovery.
