Career Highlights

Medical-surgical experience since 1975, serving as staff nurse and charge nurse. Served on several unit-based patient education committees and served as the unit representative to the University of Utah Nursing Council. Oncology nurse certified since 1986. Advanced oncology certified nurse since 2000. Worked as a clinical instructor at the University of Utah College of Nursing from 2000 to 2006. Instructor for "Nursing Management of Drug Therapy" in the bacclaureate program since 2006, "Clinical Genetics" in the doctoral program since 2009, and "Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics" since 2011. Instrumental in incorporating pharmacology content into content-based curriculum, initiated in 2015.

Developed and taught a review course for oncology nurses preparing for certification for several years and provided regular lectures on The Genetics of Cancer and on Carcinogenesis to oncology nurse interns at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Presented "Targeted Cancer Therapies" to local chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society in 2013.

Provided an oncology clinical experience at Huntsman Cancer Hospital (HCH) for first semester nursing students from 2000-2006.

Developed pharmacology content to be incorporated into the nursing capstone experience, which has led to improved outcomes on the NCLEX predictor exam. Poster presentation related to findings presented to ATI Nursing Education Conference in Las Vegas Nevada in April 2013. Serve as liason to the PharmGenEd program (UCSD) for the college of nursing.

Interested in genetics and its role in variable drug response. Developed pharmacogenomic case studies and incorporated pharmacogenomic case studies into the Clinical Genetics Course, providing students exposure to issues associated with pharmacogenomic testing.  Co-Presented (with Lauri Linder) to International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) Annual Meeting in Montreal, Canada in 2011 on "The Use of Case Studies to Teach Pharmacogenomics to APRNs."
