Research Statement

My research interests center on college student development and student affairs practice. Specifically, I seek a better understanding of the factors that influence college students' decisions about whether and where to attend college, what resources students bring with them to college and how student affairs practitioners can better utilize these resources to promote student success. Inherent in this focus is an examination of the experiences of students who belong to groups that have been marginalized on higher education campuses: students of color, students from lower social class backgrounds, LGBT students, women, and first-generation college students. In particular, my research questions structures, policies, and practices that marginalize these groups, and explores new ways to frame higher education environments so that all students can achieve their educational goals.
