Research Statement

My research interests include Middle Eastern cinema (I am past chair of the Middle East caucus of the Society for Cinema Studies), migration cinema, hemispheric studies in the Americas, indigenous cinemas, British cinema (especially the work of Derek Jarman), the relationship between pain and creativity, and early theories of the cinema. In addition, I have published work on the cinema of F.W.Murnau, Jorge Sanjines, political documenatary in the United States, Mexican cinema and _Crash_ and race.
