Research Statement

Past research and publications on classical Islamic historiography, rural-urban relations in Syria during the 10th-13th centuries, and North African social history in the 19th century. Numerous articles and chapters on Islam, Islamism, and contemporary social questions in the Middle East. Currently working on a monograph on Islamic Origins (600-750 CE).
