Research deals with the development of thermoacoustic devices for energy harvesting. Second area deals with studies and development of quasicrystals for special coatings which are hard, non-stick, and low friction.

Biography

Orest G. Symko is presently a Professor of Physics at the University of Utah. He was awarded B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Ottawa, and a D.Phil. degree from the University of Oxford, England. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. His research interests are in low temperature physics, magnetism, superconductivity, acoustics, and quasicrystals. He is the author of a textbook, Phyics of HI-Fi, Analog to Digital. His research has led him to many collaborations with students, visiting scholars, and scientists.This has led to numerous visits and talks at research labs and universities. He is passionate about basic research and its applications.
