Research Summary

We study membrane trafficking and iron metabolism. We identified molecules that regulate endocytic vesicles. We cloned the LYST/beige gene and are examining its role in trafficking. We identified proteins involved in the secretory pathway. Transport of iron requires appropriate membrane trafficking. Malregulation of iron metabolism leads to anemia or iron overload. We use model organisms including zebrafish, yeast and mice to identify and characterize factors involved in iron metabolism.
