Honors & Awards

  • This Dee Grant proposal supports teaching activities for Phase 2 of a teaching improvement project that targets four undergraduate courses in the TESOL Certificate Program. The purpose of the proposal is to determine how the realignment of the curriculum, which was accomplished in Phase 1 of the project, affects student learning in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitudes as they are conceptualized in the Intercultural Knowledge and Competence Value Rubric.   • Seed Grant. This project narrative explains the first stage of a research project that focuses on investigating the development foreign language skills and the conceptualization of instructional practices in an early childhood French immersion program. The overall purpose of the research is to document the development of second and foreign language (SFL) proficiency over time to determine possible factors that may affect SFL development in young learners involved in immersion education. We are interested in the development of oral language skill development (i.e., listening and speaking), as well as the instructional practices that are used to foster the development of emergent reading and writing skills.   • The TESOL Encyclopedia of English Language Teaching received an Honorable Mention in the American Library Association 2019 Dartmouth Medal for most outstanding reference work. I was an Associate Editor on the project and edited Volume 3, which contained 65 entries and 200,000 words. American Library Association , 2019

  • Nomination. 2018 QIYAS Award for Excellence in Educational Assessment. The QIYAS award was established in 2014 to promote excellence and contributions to the field of educational measurement, assessment, and evaluation. It is awarded every two years in conjunction with the International Conference on Educational Evaluation (ICEE), which is organized by the Education Evaluation Commission (EEC) in Saudi Arabia.   • TESOL 50@50 Award. TESOL International Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary at the annual convention in Baltimore, Maryland, USA April 5 – 8, 2016. In recognition of its 50 years, 50 individuals were selected to receive the 50@50 Award. Professor Christison was recognized one of 50 TESOL leaders worldwide who has made a significant contribution to the TESOL profession through her teaching, research, and leadership. The TESOL website states the following about the group: "Their leadership has helped build the association and develop English language teaching and learning into a profession that touches the lives of students and educators worldwide.”.
