Courses I Teach

  • H EDU 3033 - Meds, Drugs and EMS
This course is designed to expose prehospital providers, allied health professionals, and health educators to how drugs, medications and general principles of pharmacology effect their practice. We will explore the history of drugs, medication research, development and marketing, drug administration, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacoeconomics of common over-the-counter and prescriptive medications, herbal preparations, dietary supplements and recreational drugs using a case-based approach.
  • H EDU 4450 - Pathophysiology for EMS Providers
This course discusses human pathophysiology as a foundation for prehospital emergency medical care. We will explore the causes of common diseases found in humans that EMS providers are most likely to encounter through a concept based approach of each body system including the relationship of each system in the disease process.
  • H EDU 5950 - Emergency Medical Technician Training
This class prepares students to become knowledgeable and effective pre-hospital emergency care providers. You will be trained in airway and breathing management beyond BLS guidelines, automatic defibrillation of patients in cardiac arrest, recognizing and treating shock, bleeding control and bandaging, fracture management and splinting, spinal immobilization, and proper handling of patients. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible for state and national EMT certification.
  • H EDU 5970 - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
This course expands the EMT's basic skills to include more detailed prehospital assessment techniques and patient monitoring equipment, management of hypoprofusion using intravenous therapy, advanced airways, and drugs/medications. Utah state certification is possible with successful completion of this class; however, students may take this course for knowledge and experience and not certify.
