Eduard Gappmaier, PT, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Health. Being a native of Austria he received his degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Innsbruck and subsequently immigrated to the USA to complete a PhD in Exercise Physiology at Brigham Young University. As director of the Clinical Neuromuscular Research Laboratory his research focuses on the effects of physical activity on physical fitness, function, health related quality of life and disease progression in persons with neuromuscular disease and multiple sclerosis. In 1998 he established the University of Utah Rehabilitation and Wellness Program, which provides professionally supervised group exercise programs for persons with chronic disease and disabilities, and currently directs the Multiple Sclerosis Exercise Program component of this now greatly expanded facility. He serves as a consultant to the Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at the SLC VAMC.
