  • Public Engagement Committee Teaching Assignment Advisory Group VR & AI in Teaching Mission Committee Faraday Lecture Series : My role here actually goes far beyond the obvious setup and cleanup of each night’s demonstrations. Presenter and audience safety, ventilation considerations, visibility and display, sustainability, cost-benefit analysis, and scale assessment all play crucial roles in making these shows a success. Teaching Assistant Assignments : The level of complexity of making TA assignments each semester continues to evolve and grow. This is always a great challenge in balancing schedules, interests, abilities, needs and requests of countless students and professors - not to mention the matrix of communications involved ! Lecture Demonstrations : In support of professors’ lectures, I perform a wide variety of chemical demonstrations applicable to the theory at hand. Safety, disposal and display considerations are also all crucial. Radiation Handler Certification : safely handling and storing radioactive samples for purposes of display and demonstration. Summer high school enrichment and AP lab assistance and marketing : For many years, our department has hosted a summer enrichment program for high school students and select high school teachers. Related to this, the academic year AP lab program brought high school students from throughout the valley into our labs as they earned freshman chemistry lab credit. As with many things, COVID changed all of this; these programs have not been able to re-generate the student interest required to support their implementation. This being said, we have not given hope of continuing high school programs such as these two. I have been working within the department as well as with local schools toward marketing and various attempts in reviving high school student participation in these programs. 01/09/2023 - present.
