Biography

John Eckstein is a cellist in the Utah Symphony and teaches cello at the University of Utah. He is an active chamber musician and soloist in addition to his teaching and orchestral duties.

Each year Mr. Eckstein appears on numerous concert series. Most recently he has performed as soloist in the Brahms Double Concerto with Utah Symphony Concertmaster Ralph Matson and the Salt Lake Symphony(10/13), the Nova Chamber Series(10/14), the Sundays@7 series(10/14,2/15) and the Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs Colorado(6&8/14). In addition he appears in hundreds of orchestral performances each year.

A tireless advocate for his students, this year(3/15) he is bringing his former teacher and Professor of Cello at Eastman School of Music, Steven Doane, to the University of Utah for a series of classes and recital. Mr. Doane was here two years ago in a similar project designed to enhance the string program by exposing students to the highest international standard and the latest trends in technique/musicianship. Special thanks to the ASUU for their support in making this project possible.
