Professor Chandran joined University of Utah as Assistant Processor in 1995. His research is focused on I have been active in the general area of Physical Metallurgy including Alloy Design and Processing of Refractory Alloys, Multiclass Titanium Boride Materials, Li-ion Battery Materials, Neutron Diffraction, Fatigue, Fracture mechanics, Machine Learning. In about thirty years of his academic career at the University, he built a distinguished record of research, having acquired multiple research grants from National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, Army Research Office, Army Research Laboratory. This translates into a cumulative funding of about $14M, averaging about $400K/year. Most of the research funding went into supporting graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and building laboratory facilities for student research.
Since 1995, Dr. Chandran has supervised directly as sole adviser, and graduated 20 Ph.D. students, 17 M.S. students, 4 Postdoctoral Fellows and 1 visitor. Chandran’s H-index is 46 and total citations over 7900, Chandran also mentored 5 undergraduate students as researchers in his lab some of whom went on to do graduate work with him. Overall, this covers a total of 44 mentees from his group, including graduate students, post-docs and visitors.
