Biography

Brian Patrick has been directing award-winning documentaries for over 30 years. Three films that he has directed, produced, and edited have aired on National Public Television, including “Testimony,” “On Their Honor,” and “The Hideout.” Patrick has collaborated with directors such as Steven Spielberg, interviewing survivors of the Holocaust for The Shoah Foundation.

Patrick holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Ohio University School of Film, and has taught film production at: Ohio University, University of Colorado, Southern Illinois University, and UC Santa Cruz.  During this time, he developed and taught courses in film/video production, film history survey (documentary, experimental, animation), and film directing. Patrick was also Filmmaker-in-Residence for the Wyoming Arts Council from 1975-78 where he taught beginning filmmaking in the Cheyenne Public Schools.

Patrick has been teaching at the University of Utah since 1978, where he is a Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts.  Patrick was Director of the Film Studies Program from 1991-96.  Patrick recently completed a feature documentary entitled “Burying the Past – Legacy of The Mountain Meadows Massacre” which has garnered 11 awards.   This film and other award winning works restored to DVD can be found at Amazon.com for purchase.  Patrick is currently working on documentaries about Navajo Medicine Men and Mountain Meadows Massacre Descendants.
