Research Statement

My primary research interest is in developing and analysing mathematical models of physiological processes. Although my biological interests are wide ranging, the unifying theme is the identification and application of mathematical principles of dynamical systems to biological processes. Some of the problems on which I have worked recently include initiation and termination of cardiac arrhythmias, quorum sensing by bacteria, pattern formation in biofilms, stochastic behavior of neural action potentials and of calcium release events, size regulation of filaments of molecular motors, and propagation of action potentials in cardiac tissue.
