Research Statement

Prof. Wu has been extensively working on various problems in the frontier of theoretical physics (particle theory, condensed matter theory and mathematical physics). These include unified string theory, quantum gauge field theory, fractional statistics and strongly correlated systems, integrable field theory and statistical models (quantum groups and the Yang-Baxter equations), as well as geometry and field/string theory on a space time with non-commutative coordinates. In particular, he is interested in the topological aspects of physical phenomena in both particle and condensed-matter physics, and in the geometric and algebraic structures underlying the fundamental laws in physics that unify all matter and forces in nature. In recent years, he also became interested in topological quantum computation: an emergent interdisciplinary research frontier between physics, mathematics and computer science.
