Research Statement

My research interests are in earthquake seismology, earthquake hazards, seismotectonics, and crustal structure. My work at the University of Utah has focused on studies of the Intermountain region using data from the University's regional seismic network, portable seismographs, seismic reflection equipment, and the Global Positioning System. Specific areas of research have included focal mechanisms and source properties of earthquakes in the Intermountain Seismic Belt, seismic hazards in Utah, earthquake ground motion predictions for the Salt Lake Valley, the Great Salt Lake fault, and the crustal velocity structure beneath Utah.
