Biography

Anthony Butterfield, a native of Salt Lake City, received his Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1997.  After a year working in the biomedical industry, he enrolled in the University of California, San Diego’s graduate program.  There he developed finite element simulations of eukaryotic cell cycle kinetics, and received a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1999.

In 2000 Dr. Butterfield returned to Utah to raise his family and rejoin the University of Utah as a Ph. D. candidate.  In 2007, he defended his dissertation on model-based filtering and control of single molecular motors, and received his Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering.  Between 2007 and 2009 Dr. Butterfield created and managed Focused Therapies, LLC and conducted post-doctoral work on ultrasound-triggered drug delivery systems.  In 2009 he took a position as an instructor at the University of Utah and the following year he was given his current appointment of Assistant Professor, Lecturing.
