Research Statement

Penny Brooke is presently a Professor and Director of Outreach at the University of Utah College of Nursing. She joined the faculty in 1974 after obtaining her Masters degree in Psychiatric Nursing of children. In 1984, Penny graduated from the University of Utah law School and practiced with the law firm of Winder and Haslam while at the same time teaching courses for the College of Nursing. From 1985 to 1999 Penny served as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs for the College of Nursing. Penny is licensed as a psychiatric nurse specialist and is a member of the Utah State Bar Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and  has served as a board member of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys.  Penny has served as the President of the University of Utah Faculty Academic Senate and will chair the American Hospital Association's Committee on Governance in 2011.  She has also served as a trustee on the boards of Intermountain Healthcare, The Utah Hospitals and Systems Association, The American Hospital Association Region 8 Governing Board, and the Intermountain Therapy Animals Board . Penny is married to W. Sands Brooke and has two grown children Amie Elizabeth Nelson and Benjamin Sands Brooke MD.
